Beck is one of my favorite artists – his music always innovative and incredible. When I found out about Beck’s Record Club my jaw hit the floor. Beck describes it as
“An informal meeting of various people to record an album a day. An album will be chosen to be reinterpreted and used as a framework. Nothing rehearsed or arranged ahead of time. The songs are rough renditions, often first takes that document what happened over the course of a day as opposed to a polished rendering. There is no intention to ‘add to’ the original work or recreate the power of the original recording. Only to play music and document what happened.”
This is absolutely insane! Beck’s already worked with Yanni, INXS, Skip Spence, Leonard Cohen, and The Velvet Underground & Nico. There is a vimeo channel where you can find some of the recordings, but the majority of the recordings can be found at Beck’s Record Club’s website where one track is uploaded per week. I was already late in this discovery, so don’t let yourself miss out on this amazing musical adventure.
